LBRN PI Awarded R01 from NIH

The National Institutes of Health awarded $1.65 million to fund cancer research being done by Seetharama Jois, Ph.D., a professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the School of Basic Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Sciences at the University of Louisiana Monroe College of Pharmacy.

Southeastern biologist awarded $1,125,000 National Science Foundation Grant

Southeastern Louisiana University Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences April Wright (LBRN PI) has been awarded a five-year grant of $1,125,000 by the National Science Foundation to integrate information from the fossil record with data collected from living species to infer phylogenetic relationships.

LSU Heath Researcher receives $750k NASA grant

Dr. Xiao-Hong Lu, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Neuroscience at LSU Health Shreveport, received a $750,000 grant from The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Biological and Physical Sciences Division’s Space Biology Program to develop a novel genetic engineering technology to evaluate the impact of space radiation on the human brain. The research team includes co-investigators Dr. Lynn Harrison, Professor of Molecular and Cellular Physiology at LSU Health Shreveport; Dr. Jeffery Chancellor, Assistant Professor at LSU Baton Rouge; and Dr. Urska Cvek (LBRN PI), Professor at LSU Shreveport.

2021 LBRN 19th Annual Meeting Awards are made for Poster presentations for Summer Program Participants in the Graduate and Undergraduate categories. One Graduate student and one Full Project presenter is awarded for their oral presentations.

LBRN Student LSUS Senior Places First in National Competition

September 24, 2020

Shreveport, LA—LSU Shreveport senior Prerana Ramesh placed first in the Virtual Poster Presentation Competition in the 2020 UTHealth CPRIT Summer Undergraduate Fellowship Program. Ramesh also claimed a finalist title in the 90-Second Elevator Speech Competition.

Samantha K. Murphy fulfilled the requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at LSU Health Shreveport on September 18, 2020.

LBRN Student awarded Honors Student of the Year

May 5, 2020

Tyler Tran is a Junior from Slidell pursuing a B.S in Biology concentrating in Integrative Biology and a minor in chemistry. He has served as secretary and vice-president of Delta Omega Alpha pre-professional society, Treasurer of the Biology Undergraduate Society, Ambassador for the Southeastern Honors Program, and as a member of the Honors Student Association. Tyler earned Sophomore Honors Distinction, was an Honors Freshman of the Year Finalist, and a Southeastern Male Freshman of the Year nominee.

Finalists of the 4th Annual Regional Scholars Forum

The 4th Annual LSUS Regional Scholars Forum was held on March 15, 2019 from 8 am to 4 pm at the LSUS University Center. The event allowed undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines to present original research as poster presentations or oral presentations. Each year, the Regional Scholars Forum is open to university students and their mentors from Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Oklahoma.

Senior biology major one of 10 students in nation chosen to share importance of research with lawmakers

A decorated and hard-working Louisiana Tech senior biology major, Conner Hartupee will visit Washington, D.C., May 21-23 as one of only 10 students from throughout the country to participate in a highly competitive nationally funded program that helps new generations of young researchers communicate the importance of research.

BioMorph Lab at Louisiana Tech receives two USAF contracts

Louisiana Tech’s BioMorph Lab, directed by professor Dr. David Mills (LBRN PI), recently received a pair of research contracts from the U.S. Air Force that call for the development of an antimicrobial filament for 3D medical device printing and a multifunctional bandage.
