The Department of Biological Sciences at Louisiana State University, in
conjunction with the National Institutes of Health, Biomedical Research
Infrastructure Network Program, is hosting nine week research opportunities
for eligible faculty and students, both graduate and undergrad in the Biological and Computational Sciences.
Those interested in working on projects at the interface between the
biological and computational sciences are encouraged to apply to this
program. Work will be done in established laboratories, with interaction
among scientists and peers. Of special focus will be providing research opportunities to faculty and students from primarily undergraduate institutes in the state of Louisiana.

| Summer
Program Application Procedure
| |
Faculty:
- The completed
Application Form.
- Collaboration agreement from prospective
Laboratory PI/PIs.
- A brief
research proposal in NIH format which should include the following forms: Face Page 1 and 2, Form Page 4 including a Budget Justification (NIH Continuation page), Biosketch, Resources, Checklist and Personal Data (LBRN Faculty Summer Proposal), and a 5-page Research Plan (separate MS Word document). These forms may be found in pdf or MS Word format at the NIH website http://grants2.nih.gov/grants/funding/phs398/phs398.html. Please note that if the application does not contain all requested forms it will be incomplete and will not warrant consideration for review.

Graduate Students:
- The completed
Application Form.
- Statement
of Interest. The statement should include:
- How this
program will enhance your graduate research,
- What you
plan to do with your science future.
- Two letters
of recommendation: one from a member of your graduate committee, one from your PI or PIs of the laboratory
that you plan to work in (on department or college letterhead).
- A
brief 1-2 page outline of your graduate research.

Undergraduate Students:
- The completed
Application Form.
- Statement
of Interest. The statement should include:
- Why you
should be chosen for the program, What life experiences you
have had that could contribute to a laboratory group, and
what you plan to do with your science future.
- Three letters
of recommendation from college faculty members, two of whom
are in science (on department or college letterhead).
- An official
copy of your current college transcript -- to be sent by your
college directly to the LBRN Program Office in 131 Life Sciences Bldg.
