1st CCT/LBRN Workshop on Computational Biology 2008

LSU CCT and LBRN will host the 1st Workshop on Computational Biology. The 1.5 day event will take place April 25-26, 2008 at Louisiana State University. We would like to invite researchers/faculty and graduate students to attend this workshop.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers using computational approaches in the biological sciences, HPC providers and the Cyber-Infrastructure developers as to forge a community of computational biologists across the state. This will be the first in a series of workshops aimed at specific user communities.

For registration and other detail information, please visit Computational Biology Workshop at

AccessGrid

HPC @ LSU has updated it's training for 2008. While it doesn't mention AccessGrid access in the description the registration process does have a field to input you'd like to participate via the Access Grid. If you're at a remote site I'd encourage you to register early (at least a week) so that they know to setup for it if possible.

Information Visualization in Biomedical Informatics (IVBI)

We are soliciting original papers in the area of information visualization applied to biomedical and biomolecular data, including genomic and proteomic data. One of the great challenges is the presentation of and interaction with large and complex data sets. The need for integrated methods and creative strategies has provided an opportunity for novel solutions. We encourage the submission of new techniques, old techniques applied in novel ways, new methods, interesting applications and in-depth surveys.

AccessGrid

LBRN has been utilizing the Access Grid since December of 2002 for enhancing communication among its partner institutions in the state of Louisiana. LBRN has been utilized for advice and information for new Access Grid nodes across the state, other states, and in several other countries due to its success at this. Non-partner sites are starting up Access Grid nodes across the state and LBRN provides a state wide Access Grid venue server to enable these sites as well as other LBRN sites to collaborate in this way. In addition, with LONI making multicast reliable across the state, our progress and usage of this tool has expanded to higher quality video streams to enhance the "Access Grid Experience" with DV and HDV video to existing Access Grid sites.

Information regarding the Louisiana Access Grid Network is linked here to provide information such as Louisiana site lists, listserv information, best practices, advice and current events and past events and a gallery of photos to show the use of the tool for our program (and others). Some of these are forthcoming, but well under way. The initial pages with lists, protocols and best practices are available now.
